Ask Questions
The life of a debater is all about motions/topics and the search of the right resources to substantiate their view points. I believe, and fairly so, that good debaters constitute the better section of the society, not only because they know how to voice their opinions rationally but also because they learn to listen. The sense to define normal or abnormal, distinguish between or advocate either of the two develops when a person engages in activity of deliberation, discourse and dissent. To adumbrate the fundamentals of progress, on the very onset of development, it is inevitable for us to ask questions if we wish to move ahead.
Debate competitions, for me, are portals to improvement of one's personality and widening the horizons of mind. The very essence of human nature is to ask questions. In fact, it is safe to say that it is fundamentally aberrant for humanity to stop asking questions. However, it will be false if I claim that you will receive all your answers every time.
Recently, I went to a debate competition wherein the topic of discussion was, "God Is Dead". On encountering the motion first, I was baffled with a lot of questions and as a consequence of human curiosity, I started looking for answers. However, none of my google searches ended with anything concrete, which is very surprising for me because Google barely runs out of answers! Other than what Nietzsche said and its analysis thereon, I did not get any subjective opinion on the same.
It is saddening to admit that we still silence the demand for answers with politically correct societal constructs. We are still afraid to voice our opinions for the fear of "offending" others. However, it is imperative for us to not forget that we end up propagating ignorance by living our lives in these pre-approved, accepted, tried and tested societal frameworks.
Well, the reason for my philosophical outburst is the lack of research, opinions or just the repetition of thoughts that I came across on the internet on the concerned topic. May be, the unseen forces of the state has entrenched in us, a fear so deep that now are scared to say anything. We are afraid of the backlash we might face if we do not follow the mainstream. Hence, a topic as sensitive as God in today's firmly established religious society still remains unquestioned or unexplored.
For the purpose of my competition, I had to chalk down arguments on both sides of the coin, i.e. why and why not do I believe that God is dead.
Despite all the varied religious tensions or notions the world affiliates to, I believe there exists a basic level of individual freedom that everyone is allowed to and must exercise. Hence, the articles to follow will have my arguments chalked down in the form of two separate write-ups.
